The Ins and Outs of Powder Mixing

Whether referring to industrial applications, pharmaceutical needs or food processing, powder mixing is a critical component within many production facilities. Of course, this is a rather broad topic which revolves around countless rather specific techniques (depending upon the purpose in question). However, understanding some of the basic principles and types of machinery used is still quite important. As we boast a great deal of experience in the mechanical and thermal processing of powders, we are able to offer a wide range of bespoke solutions which are based around the needs of the customer. The Types of Powder Mixing

It is first important to note that there are a number of different pieces of machinery that we supply. Some of the most common which are found throughout this industry include (but are not limited to):

Note that each of these can be further broken down into subcategories depending upon the discrete need of the user and the desired end product. An example of this can be seen in the sintering and compaction processes which are used within the field of powder metallurgy (such as when producing pharmaceutical products). Compaction techniques can likewise be observed in the manufacture of certain metals which are pressed under extremely high pressures to produce a solid piece.

Mixing Concerns

It is altogether obvious that specific powders will naturally have different mechanical and chemical properties. Thus, certain powder processing machines will need to adapt to these parameters. Some will need to be thermally processed at higher temperatures while others may require that they are free from any static electricity to avoid a potentially hazardous discharge. When we combine these (and other) characteristics with the need for many plants to operate under continuous production, it becomes clear that turnkey solutions are critical. Thanks to our experience within this sector, such solutions are now a reality.

The Categories of Mixers

Our primary concerns revolve around the design and implementation of the most appropriate mixers for very specific tasks. So, the number of variants is considerable. Some examples can include ribbon mixers, granulation machines, cone blenders, wet powder mixers and mass blenders. As can be imagined, each is designed to address a very discrete purpose.

While we are happy to provide our customers with these and other devices, our expertise also extends far beyond powder mixing alone. We also supply agglomeration equipment, bulk processing machines and dryers. Thus, we can be considered the “one-stop-shop” for all powder processing needs. Both wet and dry powders can be addressed in this fashion.
